Day Ninety – Saturday Shift

As I type ‘day 90’, I’m in shock. I cannot believe that in 10 days I will have completed the first leg of my journey in the world of fitness and health. I’d never truly believed in the beginning that I could come this far and keep it up and I’ve proven myself wrong, which means a lot to me. I now have a different level of confidence and do not ever doubt myself before trying something. I’ve achieved so much in this time and it just keeps getting better. I’ve shaved down my running times, ventured into the weights section, discovered new classes and tried lots of new, healthy foods and recipes. Things have changed and it’s been for the better. I have never been happier and now feel so at ease in my skin.

I was working today and the gym doesn’t open until 8am on a Saturday morning which frustrates me a lot. I find it too rushed to get a good workout in before starting work at 9.30, so I took another rest day today. I do only tend to go to the gym 4 times a week when I work on a Saturday, which is still a lot better than nothing. My shift went by pretty quickly as I was really busy. I was so eager to get home and relax.

My intake for the day was:

  • Nutrigrain Granola Bar
  • Graze Apple, Cinnamon Almonds and Raisins
  • Minestrone Cup a Soup
  • 2 Home-made Enchiladas w/ Tortilla Chips

It wasn’t the best day in terms of nutrition but I was happy enough with my intake and enjoyed a delicious meal cooked by Brandon’s Mum for me getting in from work; a lovely treat.

Time for the usual Saturday night movie (if I can stay awake) and I also have to get organised for tomorrow. It’s our first Sunday without having to go round open-viewings to find a flat so we’re off out for lunch to celebrate!

Day Eighty Nine – Full Body Friday Workout

I’m a total doughnut. I set my alarm for 9am rather than 6am by accident. Luckily, my body is more than used to getting up early and I woke up naturally just after 6am. I’d have been really annoyed at myself if I’d slept in and missed the gym, nevermind being late to work! I skipped my cardio again this morning and did a heavy full body workout. I put my legs through their paces which I haven’t done properly for a while. Squats, Lunges and Deadlifts. REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT. I can guarantee I’ll be feeling it tomorrow. I then did the same with my core. I used heavier weights and upped my reps to get a really great burn.

I was a little bit naughty with my intake today, but it was nice to allow myself the things I wanted:

  • Nutrigrain Granola Bar
  • Apple
  • Graze Blueberry Toasts w/ White Chocolate Dip
  • M&S Sweet Chilli Lentil Curls
  • Smartie’s Cookie (this is where it all went wrong)
  • Salad w/ Chicken
  • Chicken Burrito – No Sour Cream, Beans etc so it’s not too bad
  • Doritos w/ Salsa
  • Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut

Brandon and I decided to have a night in and grab some dinner when he picked me up from work. We stopped off at Illegal Jacks for some Mexican and I have to say it was outstanding. The food was fresh and by omitting the high-fat ingredients, I’m hoping it wasn’t too calorific. Not that it matters with what I ate afterwards. I was having really bad cravings and I gave in to them. I ate far too much and too much of the wrong foods, which I’m slightly disappointed by. I don’t want to throw away any progress by eating crisps and chocolate, but at the same time I enjoyed it and life is for enjoying. As I’ve said countless times it’s all about having the balance.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Day Eighty Eight – Sweet Tooth

Today was a rest day for me as I was off work and had a pretty busy day planned. It was also a good chance to let my knee and hip (it’s giving me problems now too) recover so I’m not overly disappointed about not going to the gym.

I ran lots of errands in town; returning clothes, picking up birthday presents for family, picking up my prescription from the doctors and attending an appointment at the bank. This was all before it even hit midday. I was in the zone and super productive after an early start! I wanted to get everything done before I went to my hair appointment and I did! This meant I could get there and not have to worry or stress about having to run around afterwards trying to get things done before the shops closed. I’m never able to plan much around my hair appointments as I have so much hair and I’m usually in there for around 3 or 4 hours. I got lots of blonde put through the ends of my hair as I’m trying to get it lighter for the Summer. I was really pleased with the result, as always! My hairdresser is amazing.

My intake for the day was:

  • 2 Small Slices of Seeded Toast w/ Jam
  • Leftover Turkey Bolognese w/ Wholemeal Fusilli (this was actually lunch at 5pm!)
  • Onion and Chive Bagel (Dinner)
  • Carrot Cake – Brandon’s Mum made this for a bake sale at work and I couldn’t say no!

After my big lunch, I had a little sleep and when I woke up we watched an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. There was so much drama and I now can’t wait for next week’s episode.

I’m back to work tomorrow so I’d better get myself organised.

Day Eighty Seven – Celebrations

I could barely sleep last night for thinking about submitting our offer on the flat this morning. I was absolutely shattered but I got up at 6am regardless and made my way to the gym. I worked out my full body to make up for missing last nights class which works every muscle group (one of the reasons I liked it so much). Exercise helps me a lot when I am stressed or have things on my mind, as for that period of time when you’re in the gym it’s just about focusing on what you’re doing there and then. I would never describe the gym as serene but I always feel relaxed and at peace whilst I’m there. It’s just part of my daily routine now and I’m entirely comfortable with it.

The flat went to closing at 12pm and by 2pm I’d still heard nothing. I couldn’t concentrate in work. I felt sick and was the most nervous I’ve been throughout this process so far. I knew we had put in a great, competitive offer but I also knew this was right for us. This was the flat that was meant to pop up (cliche but true). Then Brandon texted me to say we’d got it… Our offer was accepted! I was absolutely elated and shocked at the same time. I almost couldn’t believe it; I now own a home. It’s a beautiful two bedroom flat in the centre of Edinburgh. I actually could not be happier. It feels like everything in my life is finally coming together and this is just the start of a new chapter; and hopefully great things to come!

My intake for the day was:

  • Nutrigrain Granola Bar
  • Apple
  • Black Grapes
  • Salad w/ Chicken
  • Turkey Bolognese w/ Wholemeal Fusilli
  • 1/2 Bottle of Red Wine (Celebrations were in order!)

After work, I went to get my nails done. I was delighted as they were really needing done and it always makes me feel great afterwards. But at the same time, I just wanted to get home and dance around the hall singing “we got a flat”. Immature? Yes, but I don’t care. I’m far too excited about it all.

Time for some more celebrations!

Day Eighty Six – Last Minute Changes

I could not run this morning (my knee and hip are niggling me) so I switched my cardio up, working out on the cross trainer instead! I underestimated this – it’s not as easy as it looks and I was only using effort level 5! It’s something I’m going to look at incorporating more regularly to give my knees a break from pounding on the treadmill. I then worked out my core afterwards – the 6 pack mission is progressing nicely so I’m very pleased. Now it’s time to lean out and get my abs coming through with some good definition.

My intake for the day was:

  • Nutrigrain Raisin Bar
  • Graze Herby Bread Basket
  • Spiced Sunflower Seeds
  • Apple
  • Chicken w/ Couscous
  • Baked Potato w/ Low Fat Cheddar Cheese
  • 2 Small Slices Seeded Toast w/ Jam

I had intended on going to my Body Pump class after work, but something unexpected came up. We found a flat, that we’d previously missed whilst trolling through the pages online, and it was perfect for us. It was the exact location we had been looking for; even in the street we wanted to live in! But there was one downside.. The closing date was tomorrow which didn’t leave us much time to go see it. Brandon was calling and emailing all day and eventually managed to get us a viewing in the evening. It all turned out to be worth it. We loved the flat and I was definitely less mad about missing my class for this. It really is the one for us. I can picture my life there! Now it’s just a case of crunching numbers to put in an offer for the close.

It’s so stressful knowing that once you submit an offer it’s entirely out of your hands. I’m not going to be able to sleep so I’m off to watch Made In Chelsea to unwind.

Day Eighty Five – Monday Motivation

I have a pretty busy week ahead of me and what better way to get geared up for that than to start the week off on a high.

By mid-afternoon I already felt like I’d accomplished so much. I’d ticked off nearly every task on the To-Do list in my head. I rank 8km on the treadmill, completed some errands before work, emailed the solicitor about the flat we saw yesterday and managed to book a doctor’s appointment. I then had a really productive day in work, fueled by my positive energy. I am now learning the importance of a positive attitude, and how far that gets you on a daily basis.

My intake for the day was:

  • Nutrigrain Raisin Bake
  • Apple
  • Holland and Barrett Spicy Sunflower Seeds
  • Salmon w/ Boiled Potatoes (it was really nice to have a hot meal for lunch)

I’m always super motivated at the start of the week, despite the fact that I got no sleep and was super tired this morning. I’ve realised how much happier I am with my lifestyle and routine now, compared to my party girl days. Give me gym leggings and a fresh face over getting dolled up for a night out any day! I’ve finally found my happy place and that’s in the fitness world!

Another bonus; I got home and my Graze box had arrived, so I’ll be snacking healthily all week.

Day Eighty Four – Sunday Lunch

What a truly lovely day I’ve had. I woke up pretty much hangover free which was a good start to the day. I had a lazy morning in bed with Brandon, having breakfast and catching up on some of our TV programmes. After a bit of tidying, we got ready for our lunch reservation and headed out to squeeze in some flat viewing beforehand. We saw 3 flats in total, one of which caught our attention in particular. It was bright and spacious with a great big kitchen. Brandon and I spend quite a bit of time cooking together and I could really see us in this flat together. We’ll have to just see what happens. Our property hunt has not been too successful so far.

My intake for today contains some treats:

  • 2 Small Slices Seeded Toast w/ Raspberry Jam
  • New York Onion and Chive Bagel
  • Haggis, Turnips and Potatoes (a small starter portion)
  • Ribeye Steak w/ Chips and Peppercorn Sauce
  • Chocolate Fudge Cake w/ Cherry Meringue Ice-Cream (this was unreal!)

We dined in Monteiths, one of our favourite Scottish restaurants in Edinburgh. As we sat down at around 3.30/4pm, it was a sort of late lunch/early dinner. I was so full afterwards that I went home and slept the evening away. This was a bad idea; I’ll never sleep tonight!

I’m off to get myself ready for the struggle that is Monday mornings.

Day Eighty Three – Saturday Socialising

As normal, I used my Saturday as a rest day after working out 5 times during the week. However, Brandon and I took his dog, Molly for a walk in the morning. The route we took was beautiful; sunny and varied in gradient. We walked for around an hour and it was the perfect opportunity to enjoy the nice weather and each others company. I much prefer being outdoors on the weekend than being stuck inside not really doing anything with my days off.

image.jpeg

After our walk we had a pretty busy day! We went to Sainsbury’s and did our weekly food shop. This is one of my favourite parts of the week; it’s so therapeautic and I love knowing that I’m prepped and ready for a week of eating well! I was also hunting around clothes shops for something to wear to go out in the evening. I’d had a bit of a disaster earlier in the day whilst trying things on for my friend’s birthday night out. I just felt like none of my dresses fitted me properly since my body has changed in size and shape. I haven’t actually worn any of them in quite a long time so this was a little bit of a shock. In the end I settled for a skirt and top – always a safe bet. I don’t really go out drinking that much anymore so I haven’t bought any new dresses that fit properly. I’m 100% happier in my gym clothes and I never thought that would be the case. I used to love getting glammed up more than anything, and now I absolutely hate it.

My intake for the day was:

  • Bran Flakes w/ Semi-Skimmed Milk
  • Baked Potato w/ Low Fat Cheddar Cheese
  • Chicken Stir Fry w/ Mushrooms, Spring Onion and Beansprouts
  • McDonald’s Chicken Nuggets and Chips

Despite the outfit drama, I had a really good night in the end. It was lovely to catch up with friends I haven’t seen for a long time; something I need to make more of an effort with. I only had around 4 drinks so I got home nicely merry. However, I did make a very bad choice and ended up with a McDonalds on the way home. Oops!

Let’s hope my hangover isn’t too bad in the morning!

Day Eighty Two – Keeping It Clean At The Office

I’ve been working in an office for nearly a year now and it has definitely had an impact on my eating pattern. It feels like I’m just constantly eating! I tend to have an apple or grapes as soon as I get to work at around 9.30am – I’m always completely ravenous by the time I’ve finished in the gym, gotten showered and ready and made my way to work. I’ll then have a cereal bar shortly after (usually at about 10am) but then I find myself eating the snack I’d saved for 12pm to keep me going til lunchtime. Basically, within the space of an hour and a half I’ll have eaten all the food I’d allocated for the day at work. I don’t get my lunch until 2pm so it’s a long time to wait having finished all my food in the morning. I need to find a way to break this habit and find a more satiating breakfast that I can have on the go/at my desk. (I hate porridge). I am certain that the office environment is to blame for my snacking problem because I don’t eat like that the rest of the time when I’m not at work. It’s beginning to get me down a little as I know it’s not healthy and I worry about the detrimental effect it may be having on my progress.

With these thoughts consuming me I was in a pretty bad mood/hangry (angry because you’re hungry) at work all day. I felt weak, lethargic and really tired. However, this all changed when my colleague Emma (who’s on annual leave at the moment) dropped into the office with some cupcakes just after lunch. Even just looking at the chocolate-y goodness boosted my mood, and tasting it was even better! I’ll be keeping Bibi’s bakery in mind for any future treats/cheats. It was a little bit naughty but I ran 6km on the treadmill this morning and I’m feeling pretty lean at the moment so I’ll forgive myself.

image.jpeg

Today’s intake was:

  • Apple and Grape Snack Bag
  • Nutrigrain Granola Bar
  • Nutrigrain Raisin Bake
  • Salad w/ Chicken
  • Salmon w/ Broccoli
  • The Delicious Rocky Road Cupcake

I was going to have some rice with my dinner but after my afternoon indulgence I thought it best to keep my carbs low in the evening. That’s what has made this a sustainable lifestyle for me; making small adjustments in order to fit in the things you want. If I’d denied myself that cupcake, I’d have ended up bingeing in 2 weeks time when any cravings got too much for me. Instead, I allowed myself the treat, made a compromise elsewhere and I’ll be happier and healthier for it.

I hope you all have a great weekend. I’m off for the next two days and I can’t wait to spend some time with friends and loved ones!

Day Eighty One – Taking It Easy

Today was a struggle. My walking has improved since yesterday but I’m still sore pretty much EVERYWHERE! I’ll definitely be going back to Body Pump if it means my muscles are working that hard. I went to the gym this morning but it was by no means a great session. I ran/walked for 3km on the Treadmill and then moved on to the epileptical for 20 minutes. I still burned 400 calories that I wouldn’t have burned had I stayed in bed but it gets me down when my sessions are not that productive. I need to learn when my body just needs a rest and stop following my head that just wants to work out all the time no matter how I’m feeling.

My intake for the day was:

  • Apple
  • Nutrigrain Granola Bar
  • Nutrigrain Raisin Bake
  • Salad w/ Chicken and Couscous
  • Baked Potato w/ Reduced Fat Cheddar

It was one of my colleagues birthday’s so there was Cadburys Roses circulating the office today. I may have indulged in one or two but a girl has to live, right? I used to love savoury snacks but now I could devour a mountain of chocolate if you put it in front of me! I have developed a very dangerous sweet tooth.

After another sunbed and catching up on the latest episode of The Island with Beat Grylls, I’m off to pack my gym bag and head for bed! Goodnight and remember, it’s Friday tomorrow!
