Days Sixty Five to Seventy Three – A Week of Ups and Downs

I have been stressing myself out over the fact that I have not posted in around a week. I have had a pretty busy time of things and made the decision to forgive myself rather than killing myself to squeeze in writing a half-arsed blog. There was a few lows at the start of this week (as I’d mentioned in last Monday’s post) but it did get a lot better. I kicked off my holidays from work with a night in with the girls on Thursday. There was lots of gossip, wine and pizza. PERFECT. I woke up with a pretty awful headache on Friday morning but I felt a lot better about the things that were bothering me. We left for a long weekend away in the country with Brandon’s family on Friday afternoon. It was a bumpy, windy drive down – pretty hellish given how I was feeling but it was worth it to escape to the middle of nowhere for a few days.

I worked out right up until I went but whilst I was away I wasn’t too strict on myself. I did pack my running gear with the best of intentions but I was also looking forward to having a little bit of a treat. I took that to a whole new level and was eating and drinking without any restrictions for the entire weekend. It was nice to be a little more relaxed about eating and working out but I feel pretty awful for it now. However, I know it won’t have any major long term effects on my body or progress so I’m not too worried.


There was actually a gym in the house we were renting so I made use of that one morning. The weather was also lovely so we were outside a lot, walking and playing football in the garden etc. I also had a short stint on a pedalo boat and peddling with 3 adults in the back is not easy – my thighs were burning! I’d say I was quite active given that it was meant to be a chilled out weekend! I have been back in my home gym the last 2 mornings and God I have missed it. I ran 8km yesterday (which nearly killed me after 2 weeks off running) and I did 5km of sprints and hill sprints this morning, followed by some abs. I hurt my knee whilst running so I’m praying it’s not going to put me out for any length of time. I wasn’t sure if I might have needed a hospital trip but I’ve decided to rest up and see how things are tomorrow.


I did get a bit of ‘me time’ in as well whilst I was away and managed to start a new book – Wild by Cheryl Strayed. It follows the story of a woman who leaves everything behind to trek The Pacific Crest trail. I’m always inspired by stories where people follow their dreams or pursue something challenging. I’d love to be able to tell my kids one day that I achieved all my dreams and chased everything I ever wanted.

My intake for today (day 73) was much cleaner than it has been:

  • Apple
  • Nutrigrain Granola Bar
  • Nutrigrain Raisin Bar
  • Graze Protein Power Pack
  • Salad w/ Chicken
  • 2.5 Egg Omelette w/ Cheese and Mushrooms

After a long weekend of chocolate, crisps, red wine and bacon rolls for breakfast, I’ve been absolute ecstatic to get back into my routine. It’s just over 2 months until my 10k and little over 25 days to go until I’ve completed my 100 day challenge. Of course I’m going to continue with this as I’ve made it a lifestyle; yet I’m still excited to see where I’m at on day 100! I’m going to give it everything I’ve got for this last quarter! I still can’t quite believe how far I’ve come, both physically and mentally.

Humpday is over and I’m off work tomorrow so I’m going to chill out and relax.
